The East Central Florida and Northwest Florida Cancer Control Collaboratives are two of the state’s six CCCs. They aim to reduce the local cancer burden by improving access to cancer screenings, care, survivorship support, and information.
During competitive analysis, we saw that government-sponsored websites are too often written in confusing agency-speak, with little or no attempt to speak directly to the people who need the information most. We wanted to make sure the ECFCCC and NWFCCC sites were developed into practical resources for their target audience. That includes underserved residents lacking the economic means or education to access reliable cancer information, care, and support.
We translated government language into accessible, friendly, emotionally resonant copy and imagery. Also, we restructured and organized extensive data and information so less tech-savvy visitors can easily find what they’re looking for.
In addition, we highlighted the need for individuals and businesses in the community to get involved and help sustain this important mission. Our sites include compelling pitches to encourage donations, becoming a sponsor, and becoming a resource partner.
The Health Council of East Central Florida operates the East Central Florida Cancer Control Collaborative. Based on some Internet research done on the Collaborative website, we knew that we needed to redesign it to focus on consumers first. Fortunately, we connected with CREATE180 Design. The CREATE180 Design team took us through a complete design process, assembled elements from a variety of sources so we didn’t have to, prepared professional copy and graphics, and launched the new site that is getting raves from both the Collaborative members and similar cancer collaborative organizations around Florida.
